I would use the Animals in the Cold activity. This is a topic I have always completed in January with my class. I usually start the topic with the book The Storm Whale in Winter. We discuss where Noi the main character might live and what animals might be in this place.

I then show the children that Noi lives near the North Pole and we discuss the animal life up there and what they need to survive. I use this website as a reference point. https://www.coolantarctica.com/Antarctica%20fact%20file/arctic_animal.php
This video is also very useful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-9xDztBhzE

I have created books using book creator with the children on Artic and Antarctic animals. I use this video for Antarctic animals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBbWVw1kp5Q

The children love this topic and I can hear them discussing what they have learnt during play.

In terms of SSE and Stem I ask the children to consider how the animals eat and stay warm. They look at insulation in homes and how they keep their bodies warm. This topic will not fit in with our current SSE but might do in the future
