This year’s Engineers Week runs from Saturday February 29th to March 6th and aims to surpass 2019’s event reach, when more than 800 activities were organised countrywide with over 99,000 participants. Now in its 14th year, Engineers’ Week 2020 already boasts an extensive (and evolving) programme for primary and secondary students and STEPS are currently calling on schools, businesses, third-level institutions, libraries, outreach organisations, local authorities and other organisers, to register their planned 2020 events online to further enhance this year’s programme.
Whilst engineering touches almost every part of our lives, not enough young people think of it as a possible future career for them and as a result the industry is struggling to recruit. Engineer’s Week, is a week long festival of events to celebrate the world of engineering and highlight the importance of engineering as profession and the aim of each event is to positively showcase engineering as a rewarding and creative career choice to children in all communities.
What are the aims of Engineers Week?
- To encourage young people, their teachers and parents to explore the fun world of engineering.
- To generate interest and enthusiasm for engineering in their everyday lives.
- To inspire young people to explore engineering career paths.
- To highlight the diverse opportunities engineering offers.
